Pressed Flower Triple Chocolate Brownies
“I know something interesting is sure to happen whenever I eat or drink anything.” -
Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, 1865
There’s surely no food more magical than chocolate. It’s been used as currency, to woo
lovers, to sooth broken hearts and this floral delight is packed with twice the chocolatey
flavor. Beautifully decorated with floral accents, these tiny bites are the perfect addition
to a fairy tea party, and are the perfect gift for anyone you think may secretly be a fairy!
These brownies would fit right into the spread at Alice's tea party, surrounded by
singing flowers and oversized rabbits in waistcoats. Enjoy the indulgence of these
chocolate treats surrounded by flowers and sunshine!
Ingredients:
2 tbsp ground flaxseeds
3 cups plant-based dark chocolate, divided
1 tsp instant coffee powder
⅓ cup plant-based butter or margarine, plus extra for greasing
½ cup self-raising flour
⅓ cup ground almonds
⅓ cup cocoa powder
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Edible flowers of choice
Method:
1. Before you start, place your choice of edible flowers between two sheets of
parchment paper. Press down to stop them moving around and place a heavy
skillet or stack of books on top to press. Leave the flowers to press while you
make the brownies.
2. Preheat the oven to 330F/170C. Grease and line a 20cm tin with baking
parchment. Combine the flaxseed with 6 tbsp water and set aside for at least 5
mins.
3. Heat a saucepan over a medium-low heat and add 1 cup chocolate, the coffee
and margarine with ¼ cup water on a low heat. Mix until melted together then set
aside.
4. Add the flour, almonds, cocoa, baking powder and salt in a bowl and whisk to
remove any lumps. Using a hand whisk or beaters, mix the sugar into the melted
chocolate mixture and beat well until smooth and glossy.
5. Slowly stir the flour mixture and flaxseed into the chocolate. Combine well and
spoon into the prepared tin.
6. Bake for 35-45 mins until cooked around edges and set in the center. When you
remove the brownie from the oven, place a piece of baking paper over top and
press down gently to flatten top as much as possible. Cool Completely.
7. Melt remaining 2 cups chocolate and pour over cooled brownie and let set. When
almost set, place the flower delicately in your preferred pattern. Slice and serve.
Wishing you a very merry unbirthday!
